Unusually unsavory for an Ace story. It’s about murders, plastic surgery, severed fingers, corpses in wax – all the things you would have rather attributed to the competition. But the story is fun. What I find most astonishing is the matter-of-course-ness of the main character. He’s a deformed monster (scar across his face, empty eye socket and all) – it’s never questioned or explained!
